Biden to Request Over $98 Billion for Hurricanes Helene and Milton Relief
Nov 18, 2024, 05:33 PM
President Biden is set to send Congress an emergency funding bill in the coming days to address the urgent need for disaster relief throughout the U.S. following a brutal storm season. The White House is expected to request over $98 billion in disaster relief funds from Congress, with some reports indicating the amount could be as high as USD 100bln. This funding aims to support small business owners and communities devastated by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. A significant portion of the funds will be allocated to the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees FEMA, including USD 40bln for FEMA's disaster relief fund. Bipartisan lawmakers from North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia have urged the Office of Management and Budget to promptly send the supplemental appropriation request to Congress. President Biden’s budget director is calling on Congress to swiftly pass the disaster relief funds.
