President Biden Asks Congress for $98.6 Billion in Disaster Relief After Hurricanes Helene and Milton
Nov 18, 2024, 07:40 PM
President Biden has requested Congress to approve $98.6 billion in emergency disaster relief funding to aid communities affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which devastated parts of Florida and the Southeast. The funding includes $40 billion for FEMA's disaster relief fund, with additional support for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Agriculture, and the Environmental Protection Agency. The Biden administration is urging Congress to swiftly approve the funds to address the urgent need for disaster relief following the hurricanes, which have cost more than $7.5 billion in recovery efforts so far. The request was sent in response to bipartisan calls from lawmakers to support the communities devastated by the storms.
