U.S. Department of Energy Launches $14 Million Battery Recycling Program with 1,000 Drop-Off Sites
Jul 15, 2024, 04:06 PM
The U.S. Department of Energy has launched a new $14 million pilot program to enhance battery recycling through the establishment of 1,000 strategically placed drop-off sites across the country. This initiative aims to mitigate the environmental hazards posed by improperly discarded batteries, which can leak toxic chemicals and are prone to exploding. The program also seeks to reduce U.S. dependence on China for battery materials by improving battery and lithium recycling and material recovery processes. Batteries Plus is among the entities benefiting from federal funding to create new battery recycling solutions.
