VisitNepal Floods and Landslides Kill 132 Since Friday, 64 Missing in Kathmandu
Sep 29, 2024, 01:17 AM
Incessant rainfall in Nepal has triggered devastating floods and landslides, leading to a significant loss of life and widespread destruction. As of September 29, 2024, the death toll has risen to 132, with 64 people still missing. The heavy downpours have caused rivers to swell, inundating low-lying areas, particularly in the capital, Kathmandu, where 49 people have died, including 37 in Kathmandu. The relentless rain since Friday has also resulted in the cancellation of both domestic and international flights, and major roads have been closed, disrupting transport across the country. Rescue operations are ongoing, with over 3,600 people rescued so far, but officials warn that the death toll may rise as more reports come in from remote areas. The Nepalese government has described the situation as 'beyond imagination,' highlighting the severity of the natural disaster. Additionally, 226 homes have been submerged.
