Sep 19, 2024, 06:41 PM
Residents across the Salt Lake Valley and the Wasatch Front reported hearing multiple loud booms on Thursday, prompting widespread concern and numerous calls to emergency services. The source of the noise was identified as artillery exercises conducted by Camp Williams and routine detonations at the Tooele Army Depot. The Sandy Police Department confirmed that the booms were part of scheduled training activities. The Tooele Army Depot clarified that the detonations were part of their routine operations to dispose of expired military munitions. The booms were felt from Kaysville in Davis County to Provo in Utah County, with some areas reporting at least a dozen explosions.
