Ukraine Joins Rome Statute as 125th Member State of International Criminal Court, Says Fadi el-Abdallah
Jan 2, 2025, 12:50 PM
Ukraine has officially become the 125th member state of the International Criminal Court (ICC), joining the Rome Statute community. This membership grants Ukraine the same rights and obligations as other state parties, according to ICC spokesperson Fadi el-Abdallah. The move is seen as a step towards strengthening Ukraine's ability to pursue accountability for war crimes committed during the ongoing conflict with Russia. The announcement follows Ukraine's formal application to join the ICC, which is headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands.
