WHO Announces Marburg Virus Outbreak in Rwanda, Nine Dead, No Outbreak in Belgium
Oct 2, 2024, 12:37 PM
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced an outbreak of the Marburg virus in Rwanda. The virus, which causes severe hemorrhagic fever, has resulted in nine fatalities. Despite fears and misinformation, there is no major outbreak in Belgium. A contact of the suspected index case traveled to Belgium but is now outside the incubation period and does not have the virus. Hospital visits have been banned. Experts emphasize that the response and support should be focused on Rwanda.
