German Police Close Hamburg Station Tracks Over Two Suspected Marburg Virus Cases
Oct 2, 2024, 05:24 PM
German federal police have closed multiple tracks at Hamburg Central Station after two travelers were suspected of being infected with the deadly Marburg virus. The travelers, a 26-year-old medical student and his girlfriend, had arrived from Rwanda, where the student had contact with a confirmed Marburg case. The health department ordered the police to arrest people at the main train station as part of infection protection measures. Emergency crews in full protective gear boarded a high-speed train from Frankfurt after the travelers developed flu-like symptoms and mild vomiting. BILD reports that the Marburg virus, which has a fatality rate of up to 88%, spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids.
