SEC Fines Texas $250,000, Demands Fan Bans After Debris Thrown at Georgia Bulldogs Game
Oct 20, 2024, 08:38 PM
Texas has been fined $250,000 by the Southeastern Conference (SEC) after fans threw debris onto the field during Saturday night's game against the Georgia Bulldogs at Royal-Memorial Stadium. The incident followed a controversial pass interference call against the Longhorns, leading to a delay in the game. The SEC has mandated that Texas meet specific requirements, including using all available resources such as security and video surveillance to identify individuals who threw objects. Those identified will be banned from attending Texas athletic events for the remainder of the 2024-25 academic year. The university is also required to review and update its game management and alcohol availability policies, providing a report to the SEC. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey stated, "The throwing of debris and resulting interruption of play that took place Saturday night cannot be part of any SEC event." The SEC warned that failure to comply with the requirements could result in further penalties, including the suspension of alcohol sales at future events.
