Former DU Professor Dr. G N Saibaba Dies at 56 in NIMS Hospital on Saturday Evening
Oct 12, 2024, 04:17 PM
Former Delhi University professor and human rights activist Dr. Gokarakonda Naga Saibaba passed away at the age of 56 on Saturday evening at Nizam's Institute of Medical Science. Saibaba, who was wheelchair-bound and had a 90% disability, was acquitted in March this year after spending ten years in jail under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He was arrested in 2014 by the Maharashtra police for suspected Maoist links, charges that were not proven by the prosecution. Despite his family's pleas about his deteriorating health and multiple life-threatening ailments, Saibaba spent most of his incarceration in solitary confinement. He was suspended by Ram Lal Anand College following his arrest. Saibaba was declared dead at 8.36 p.m. after doctors at NIMS hospital performed CPR to revive him but were unsuccessful. He was wheeled into the ICU on Friday evening due to post-operative complications.
