Gerry Turner, 72, Reveals Incurable Bone Marrow Cancer Diagnosis Before Divorce from Theresa Nist, 71
Dec 14, 2024, 06:58 PM
Gerry Turner, 72, star of ABC's 'The Golden Bachelor,' has revealed that he was diagnosed with an incurable form of bone marrow cancer known as Waldenström's macroglobulinemia just weeks before his divorce from Theresa Nist, 71. Turner shared his diagnosis in an interview with People, explaining that the news influenced his decision to prioritize spending time with his family, including his two daughters, two son-in-laws, and granddaughters, over continuing his relationship with Nist, whom he married on live TV in January 2024. Despite Turner's suggestion that his health played a role in their split, Nist stated that the diagnosis was not a factor in her decision to end the relationship, citing distance and other unspecified reasons as the primary causes. Turner's diagnosis came after he visited an orthopedic surgeon for an old shoulder injury, leading to further medical examinations that confirmed his cancer. The couple announced their divorce three months after their televised wedding, initially attributing it to an inability to agree on a place to live together, with plans to move to Charleston, South Carolina falling through.
