Germany Urged to Send Taurus Missiles to Ukraine Amid €3.8 Billion Aid Request
May 19, 2024, 09:11 AM
Germany's foreign minister has called for the provision of long-range missiles to Ukraine to target Russian positions. This statement is seen as increasing pressure on Chancellor Olaf Scholz to supply Taurus missiles. However, Germany has expressed reluctance to transfer these missiles due to concerns they might be used to strike Crimea, as stated by British Defense Minister Grant Shapps. In addition, the German Defense Ministry has requested an additional €3.8 billion ($4.13 billion) from the government to support Ukraine, with the proposal set for parliamentary approval in June. According to Bild, Germany has already provided Kyiv with 7.1 billion euros in aid. Sahra Wagenknecht, a member of the German parliament, criticized the increased military aid, warning it could lead Germany into the abyss.
