Germany Summons Russian Envoy, Recalls Ambassador Over SPD Cyberattacks
May 6, 2024, 01:59 PM
Germany has taken diplomatic action in response to a series of cyberattacks it attributes to Russian state-sponsored hackers. The German Foreign Ministry announced the summoning of the acting Russian ambassador to address the cyberattacks targeted at the Social Democratic Party (SPD), part of the ruling coalition, and various companies. Additionally, Germany has recalled its ambassador to Russia for a week of consultations in Berlin. This move is unprecedented and marks the first time such diplomatic consequences have followed a cyberattack on a global scale. The Czech Republic also reported similar cyberattacks on its institutions.
