French Green Leaders Urge NFP to Exit X by January 14, Demand 7 Billion Euros in Bayrou Talks
Jan 12, 2025, 01:18 PM
French Green Party leaders Marine Tondelier and Sandrine Rousseau have called for a collective exit from the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Tondelier, the national secretary of the Ecologists, stated on RTL that X is not only a source of difficulty but also a danger, advocating for its ban in Europe. She has proposed that members of the Nouveau Front Populaire (NFP) leave X and join alternative platforms like Bluesky and Mastodon. Rousseau, an ecologist deputy, sent a letter to NFP parliamentarians urging them to leave X collectively, citing its transformation into a 'machine of disinformation' under Elon Musk's management. She accuses Musk of manipulating the platform's algorithm to spread false information and promote extreme right-wing ideologies. The deadline for NFP members to respond to Rousseau's call is January 14, 2025. Tondelier also mentioned that the Ecologists had demanded 7 billion euros for environmental initiatives during negotiations with the government led by François Bayrou, emphasizing the need for strong environmental commitments from the President and the Prime Minister.
