Scientists Extract Record 1.2km Core from Mid-Atlantic Ridge

Scientists have conducted a groundbreaking expedition to the Mid-Atlantic ocean ridge, where they extracted nearly a mile of rocks from beneath a unique geological feature known as the 'Lost City'. This feature is linked to the possible origins of life on Earth. The expedition achieved a record-breaking drill core reaching 1.2 kilometers into Earth's mantle, providing the largest sample yet of mantle rocks. The analysis of these rocks is expected to offer new insights into Earth's fundamental processes and the origins of oceanic volcanoes. The rocks, which were recovered from a ridge along the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, bear a closer resemblance to those present on early Earth than to the more common rocks of today.
