U.S. Airstrikes with A-10 Warthogs Kill Over 50 Iran-Backed Militants in Eastern Syria
Dec 1, 2024, 11:03 PM
U.S. aircraft conducted a series of airstrikes targeting positions of Iran-backed militias in eastern Syria, focusing on the towns of Marat, Khasham, Mazloum, and Al-Mayadin in the Deir Ezzor province. The strikes, which included A-10C 'Warthog' close-air support attack aircraft, hit a communication center, barracks, and several other military sites. The operation resulted in heavy casualties, with over 50 militants killed and at least a dozen military trucks and technicals destroyed. The targets included members of the Hashd al-Shaabi and Fatemiyoun Brigades, as well as positions of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The attacks were in response to the movement of these militias, which were reportedly crossing from Iraq into Syria to support the Syrian government and engage with Turkish-backed rebels.
