Israel Captures Syrian Ali Suleiman al-Assi, Alleged IRGC Agent, in Ground Raid
Nov 3, 2024, 05:25 PM
Israeli special forces recently conducted a ground raid in southern Syria, capturing a Syrian national alleged to be working with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The individual, identified as Ali Suleiman al-Assi, was detained in the town of Saida in the Daraa governorate during an operation carried out in recent months. According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), al-Assi was under surveillance and involved in gathering intelligence on IDF troops along the Syrian border on behalf of Iran. The operation, led by the Egoz commando unit, the Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504, and the 210th Division, aimed to prevent future attacks and provided insights into Iran’s operational methods along the Golan front. The IDF released footage of the raid, marking the first time in the current war that Israel has publicly acknowledged sending troops into Syria.
