DeSantis Takes Executive Action, Deploys National Guard to Ports Amid Dockworkers Strike and Hurricane Helene Recovery
Oct 3, 2024, 05:25 PM
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced executive action deploying the Florida National Guard and the Florida State Guard to critical ports affected by an ongoing dockworkers strike. This move aims to maintain order and, where possible, resume operations at the ports, which are crucial for the state's recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. DeSantis criticized the Biden-Harris administration for their inaction, stating that it is unacceptable for supply chain interruptions to hinder relief efforts. Additionally, the Florida Department of Transportation has been directed to waive certain tolls and weight restrictions to facilitate the movement of commercial trucks. The announcement was made during a visit to Pinellas County.
