Putin Bans Adoption to 15 Countries Allowing Gender Transition
Nov 23, 2024, 08:21 PM
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law a bill banning the adoption of Russian children by citizens of countries where gender transitioning is legal. The legislation affects at least 15 countries, including Australia, Canada, and several in Europe. Additionally, Putin approved a law that penalizes the promotion of a 'childfree' lifestyle, with fines reaching up to $4,000 for individuals, $8,000 for officials, and $50,000 for legal entities. The adoption ban is part of a broader effort to protect traditional values, as articulated by Putin, who has emphasized the importance of traditional Russian values in contrast to Western liberalism. The Russian lower house Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin stated that the adoption ban aims to eliminate potential dangers for children in countries allowing gender reassignment.
