Biden Honors 14 Killed, 30 Injured in New Orleans Attack Inspired by Islamic State
Jan 6, 2025, 11:05 PM
President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden visited New Orleans on Monday to pay their respects to the victims of a deadly New Year's Day attack. The attack, carried out by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, an Army veteran from Texas inspired by the Islamic State, resulted in the deaths of 14 people and injuries to 30 others when he drove a truck into revelers on Bourbon Street. The total number of deaths, including Jabbar, reached 15. The Bidens attended a prayer service at St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter, where Biden spoke, expressing solidarity with the grieving families and praising the city's resilience. Prior to the service, they visited a makeshift memorial on Bourbon Street, where Jill Biden laid flowers. Biden has met with the families of the victims, survivors, and first responders, emphasizing the city's strength and the nation's support during this tragedy. This visit could be Biden's last as president to console families of victims.
