Ukrainian Drones Attack Russia's Ust-Luga Port, Targeting Oil and Gas Terminals 860 km from Frontline
Jan 4, 2025, 11:27 AM
Ukrainian drones attacked Russia's largest commercial seaport, Ust-Luga, in the Leningrad region on January 4, 2025, according to multiple reports. The drones targeted facilities within the port, including the Novatrans terminal and Novatek's gas processing plant, with some sources suggesting at least one drone struck the port's infrastructure despite Russian claims. Russian authorities, including Leningrad region Governor Alexander Drozdenko, confirmed that drones were detected over the Luga Bay area of the Gulf of Finland and stated that air defense systems shot down two or three drones, preventing any damage or casualties. Local residents reported hearing explosions, and video circulating on Russian Telegram channels purportedly shows the drone strike. The drones reportedly traveled approximately 860 kilometers from the frontline to reach the target, demonstrating Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities.
