President Biden Approves Major Disaster Declaration for Florida, Unlocking Federal Funds After Hurricane Milton
Oct 12, 2024, 03:30 PM
President Joe Biden has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Florida following the catastrophic impacts of Hurricane Milton. This declaration triggers the release of federal funds to assist residents, businesses, and communities in recovering from the storm. The declaration includes Osceola, Orange, Polk, and Palm Beach Counties, among others. Floridians affected by the hurricane can now apply for individual relief funding through FEMA. Assistance is available for uninsured damages, and applications can be submitted online, via the FEMA app, or by calling 1-800-621-3362. The Florida congressional delegation, including Representatives Kathy Castor, Vern Buchanan, Darren Soto, Greg Steube, and others, had urged the President to expedite this declaration to unlock critical federal resources. FEMA has stated that more areas may be added as damage assessments continue, including 34 counties and the Miccosukee Tribe.
