John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton Win 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics on October 8 for Machine Learning
Oct 8, 2024, 09:56 AM
John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton have been awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics for their foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks. Their work has been pivotal in the development of modern artificial intelligence models, such as ChatGPT. Hopfield created a structure that can store and reconstruct information, which Hinton used as the foundation for the Boltzmann machine, a network that can learn to recognize characteristic elements in data. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the award on Tuesday, October 8.
