Official investigation report from South Korean authorities
South Korean Police Raid Jeju Air and Muan Airport After Boeing 737-800 Crash Kills 179
Jan 2, 2025, 04:08 AM
South Korean police have conducted raids on Jeju Air and Muan International Airport as part of an investigation into a deadly plane crash that occurred on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of 179 people. The crash involved a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 that belly-landed and overshot the runway at Muan Airport, subsequently exploding into flames after hitting an embankment. Two crew members survived the incident. The police are searching for documents and materials related to the aircraft's operation and maintenance, as well as the management of airport facilities. The investigation is also examining the role of a concrete embankment at the end of the runway, which may have contributed to the severity of the crash. The flight data recorder, which was damaged, is being sent to the United States for analysis, while the cockpit voice recorder's data conversion is expected to be completed by Friday. Acting President Choi Sang-mok has ordered immediate action if any issues are found during a special inspection of all Boeing 737-800 aircraft in the country.
