Karnataka Ministers Demand 3 Deputy CM Posts Amidst BJP Criticism
Jun 24, 2024, 08:25 AM
There is a growing demand for the appointment of three additional Deputy Chief Ministers (Dy CMs) from various communities in Karnataka. Karnataka Minister K. Rajanna proposed the creation of Dy CM posts for representatives from the Lingayat, SC/ST, and minority communities. This proposal has sparked a debate within the state, with some factions within the Congress party, particularly those aligned with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, pushing for these appointments. Minister Zameer Khan also supports the idea, stating that every community has its ambitions. However, the proposal has faced criticism from the BJP, with leaders like Dr. Ashwath Narayan accusing the Congress party of being more interested in power than in serving the people. The current Deputy CM, D.K. Shivakumar, is seen as a point of contention among those advocating for the new positions. Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has also reacted to the Congress demand.
