David DePape Sentenced to 30 Years for October 2022 Hammer Attack on Paul Pelosi
May 17, 2024, 06:10 PM
David DePape, the man convicted of breaking into the home of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and attacking her husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer in October 2022, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. The incident, which occurred in San Francisco, involved DePape attempting to kidnap Nancy Pelosi. Prosecutors pushed for a terrorism enhancement in his sentencing. Nancy Pelosi, in a letter to the court, asked for a 'very long' sentence for DePape. The attack left Paul Pelosi with severely damaged nerves in his hand. Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley handed down the maximum sentence of 50 years, but DePape will serve 30 years. DePape did not speak at his sentencing hearing.
