US Completes Floating Pier in Gaza for Humanitarian Aid, UK Sends 100 Tonnes of Aid
May 16, 2024, 09:21 AM
The United States has completed the installation of a temporary floating pier off the coast of Gaza, aimed at facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave. The pier, which cost $320 million and involved around 1,000 troops, is now anchored to the beach and is expected to begin receiving aid shipments within days. Nearly 100 tonnes of UK aid have already left Cyprus bound for the pier, with the initial shipment containing 8,400 shelter kits. The aid will be distributed by the United Nations and coordinated with local authorities. The initiative is part of a joint effort by the US, UK, Cyprus, and other partners to address the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, exacerbated by the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
