Carla Compton Wins Historic Tuxedo Byelection for NDP with 49.5% Vote in Winnipeg
Jun 19, 2024, 02:03 AM
In a historic shift, the Manitoba NDP's Carla Compton has won the Tuxedo byelection, marking the first time the Winnipeg constituency has not been held by the Progressive Conservatives since its creation in 1981. Compton secured 49.5% of the vote, defeating Progressive Conservative candidate Pinsky, who garnered 41.3%. The byelection was held to replace former Manitoba premier Heather Stefanson. The unofficial final results show a significant gain for the NDP, with the party increasing its vote share by 12 percentage points compared to the 2023 election. The Liberal and Green Party candidates, Pfau and Gibson, received 7.6% and 1.6% of the vote, respectively. This result signifies a notable NDP gain from the Tories.
