South Korea Orders Boeing 737-800 Inspections After Jeju Air Crash Kills 179; Second Flight Returns Over Landing Gear Issue

South Korea's transport ministry announced a comprehensive inspection of all Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by the country's carriers after a fatal Jeju Air crash on December 29, 2024, at Muan International Airport, which killed 179 people. On December 30, Flight 7C101, a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 carrying 161 passengers from Gimpo Airport in Seoul to Jeju Island, experienced landing gear issues similar to the previous day's crash and returned safely to Gimpo Airport. This prompted further concern about the safety of the Boeing 737-800 fleet. The acting president ordered an emergency safety inspection of the entire airline operation system. Authorities are working to identify the victims and determine the cause of the country's deadliest air disaster.
