Over 230 Media Professionals and BBC Staff Accuse Broadcaster of Pro-Israel Bias
Nov 2, 2024, 07:11 AM
More than 100 BBC employees, along with over 230 media industry professionals including anonymous BBC staff, have signed an open letter accusing the broadcaster of exhibiting pro-Israel bias in its coverage of the Gaza conflict. The letter, first reported by The Independent and addressed to BBC Director General Tim Davie, calls on the corporation to "recommit to fairness, accuracy, and impartiality" in its reporting on the Israel-Hamas war. The employees express that they "are appalled to see the same editorial failings repeated across news organisations" and "are dismayed at the targeting of journalists who have robustly challenged Israel on air." Some staff members have reportedly left the corporation over its coverage. The letter also makes a series of editorial demands, including reiterating that Israel does not give external journalists access to Gaza and making it clear when there is a lack of "accurate evidence-based journalism."
