Former BBC Presenter Huw Edwards Pleads Guilty to Making Category A Indecent Images of Children
Jul 31, 2024, 06:29 AM
Huw Edwards, a former BBC news presenter, has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children. The offences, which occurred between 2020 and 2022, involve 41 images and videos shared on WhatsApp, including six Category A images, the most serious kind. The images included children aged between 7 and 15. Edwards, who resigned from the BBC in April amid accusations of paying a teenager for sexually explicit pictures, has pleaded guilty to the charges. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charges, and Edwards has been released on conditional bail pending sentencing in September. He faces a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment. The BBC has faced criticism for not disclosing the charges earlier, and Edwards' case has raised questions about the corporation's handling of such incidents. Edwards' broadcasting career, which included announcing the death of Queen Elizabeth II, has ended in disgrace. He appeared in court for his first hearing recently.
