Air Canada Flight Operated by PAL Airlines Makes Emergency Landing in Halifax, No Fatalities Among 77 On Board
Dec 29, 2024, 04:55 AM
An Air Canada flight, operated by PAL Airlines as Flight 2259, experienced a dramatic emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport after its landing gear malfunctioned. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM AT on Saturday, causing the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 aircraft to skid along the runway and catch fire. The flight, arriving from St. John's with 77 people on board, had its wing scrape the pavement at a 20-degree angle, leading to a fire on the left side of the plane. Despite the alarming situation, all passengers were safely evacuated to a hangar with only minor injuries reported. The airport temporarily closed one of its runways to manage the emergency but has since reopened. This incident follows a recent tragic plane crash in South Korea, highlighting concerns over landing gear malfunctions.
