The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), led by Randi Weingarten, has consistently directed a significant majority of its campaign contributions to Democratic candidates over the years. Data shows that from 1994 to 2022, the AFT's contributions to Democrats have remained above 98%, reaching as high as 99.97% in 2022. In the current 2024 election cycle, 99.92% of the AFT's campaign contributions have also gone to Democratic candidates. In 2022 alone, the AFT contributed $24.5 million, with 99.97% allocated to Democrats. Critics have raised concerns about forced unionization, alleging that union dues are used to fund political activities that support Democratic candidates, benefiting union leadership financially.
