New York Liberty End 28-Year Wait, Win First WNBA Title Over Lynx 67-62 in OT
Oct 21, 2024, 02:40 AM
The New York Liberty secured their first WNBA championship title in franchise history by defeating the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in overtime in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals. Overcoming 30% shooting with strong defense and clutch free throws, the Liberty ended a 28-year wait and delivered New York City its first professional basketball title since the Knicks' 1973 championship. The victory also marks the first pro sports title in Brooklyn since 1955. After falling in the Finals five previous times, the Liberty made history at home in the Barclays Center. Star player Sabrina Ionescu encapsulated the moment, declaring, "NEW YORK OR NOWHERE."
