Swiss Olympic snowboarder Sophie Hediger, 26, has died after being caught in an avalanche on Monday, December 23, at the mountain resort of Arosa in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. The accident occurred while she was off-piste skiing. Hediger, who had just celebrated her 26th birthday on December 14, was a member of Switzerland's national snowboard cross team and competed in both the women's snowboard cross event and the mixed team event at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. She was preparing for the upcoming World Championships in March, where she aimed to win a medal. The Swiss-Ski federation announced her death on Tuesday, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss.
