Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas has passed away at the age of 74 on July 19. Jackson Lee, a Democrat, served in the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly three decades, representing Houston's 18th Congressional District. She was a prominent advocate for progressive causes, including civil rights, reparations, and making Juneteenth a national holiday. Jackson Lee was also a senior member of the Homeland Security Committee for almost 20 years. In June, she announced that she was being treated for pancreatic cancer.
