Man Arrested After Cyber Attack Hits Wi-Fi at 19 Major UK Rail Stations, Islamophobic Messages Displayed
Sep 26, 2024, 11:02 AM
A cyber attack has disrupted public Wi-Fi services at 19 major railway stations across the UK on September 25-26, including London Euston, Victoria, King's Cross, Waterloo, Manchester Piccadilly, Birmingham New Street, Glasgow Central, Edinburgh Waverley, Bristol Temple Meads, Guildford, and Liverpool Lime Street. Passengers attempting to connect to the stations' Wi-Fi networks were presented with messages detailing recent terror attacks in Europe, including Islamophobic content and warnings about the 'Islamisation of Europe'. The British Transport Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and a man who works for the Wi-Fi provider has been arrested in connection with the cyber attack. The Wi-Fi operator revealed that a 'legitimate administrator account' was used to carry out the hack. Wi-Fi services at the affected stations have been suspended while the investigation continues.
