WHO Urges China to Share COVID-19 Origins Data; Beijing Asserts Transparency
Dec 30, 2024, 10:59 PM
On the fifth anniversary of the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) has renewed its call for China to share data and grant access to help understand the origins of the virus, stating that 'this is a moral and scientific imperative.' China responded by asserting that it has shared most of its COVID-19 data and research results with the international community 'without holding anything back' and emphasized that origins tracing should be conducted globally. The WHO first received notice of cases of 'viral pneumonia' in Wuhan on December 31, 2019. Since then, the pandemic has resulted in over 7 million deaths worldwide.
