Jul 28, 2024, 01:01 AM
Vivian Kong Man Wai of Hong Kong clinched the gold medal in the women's epee individual event at the Paris 2024 Olympics on the first day. This victory marks Hong Kong's first medal at the Paris Games and their first-ever medal in women's fencing. Kong, who is the world No.1, overcame a significant deficit, trailing 1-7, to narrowly defeat France's Auriane Mallo-Breton 13-12. The match was held in front of a partisan home crowd, which included President Macron. This is Hong Kong's second Olympic fencing gold, following Cheung Ka Long's men's foil individual gold in Tokyo.
