Congo Receives 50,000 Mpox Vaccines from USAID, Moves Up Campaign to October 2
Sep 12, 2024, 12:27 PM
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has received its first batch of Western-donated mpox vaccines after months of delays. The U.S. donation of 50,000 mpox shots arrived in Kinshasa, and the Minister of Health, Samuel Kamba, signed an agreement on September 6, 2024. USAID facilitated the donation. The DRC has also received sanitary equipment for mpox. The country has decided to bring forward the launch of its mpox vaccination campaign to October 2, nearly a week earlier than planned. The vaccination campaign will last 10 days and target adults, including healthcare professionals, park rangers, and sex workers in six provinces. The DRC is the epicentre of the mpox outbreak.
