U.S. Scrambles to Protect Trump, Dozen Ex-Aides from Iran's Aggressive Assassination Plots
Oct 11, 2024, 09:37 PM
The U.S. government is scrambling to protect former President Donald Trump and several of his former top aides amid intelligence that Iran is actively plotting to assassinate them. Reports indicate that roughly a dozen national security officials from the Trump administration are feared to be on Iran's hit list, and it's proving difficult to protect them all. In 2022, former National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien was reportedly trailed by possible Iranian assassination agents in Paris. After receiving briefings where the government said Iran is still actively plotting to kill him, Trump's campaign advisers have requested increased security measures. President Joe Biden has called on Iran to cease all plotting against Trump and former U.S. officials, warning that any assassination attempt would have severe consequences. U.S. officials are increasingly concerned that Tehran isn't bluffing and that the threat is more aggressive than previously thought.
