UNLV Beats UNR 38-14, Achieves First 10-Win Season Since 1984, Advances to Mountain West Title Game
Nov 30, 2024, 11:26 PM
UNLV defeated in-state rival UNR 38-14 at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday night, retaining the Fremont Cannon for the third consecutive year and keeping it red. The victory secures the Rebels' place in the Mountain West Conference (MWC) Championship game against No. 11 Boise State next Friday. Quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams accounted for three touchdowns, including a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kaleo Ballungay and a 17-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Ricky White, who now has 23 touchdown receptions at UNLV, three shy of the program's all-time record. Running back Jai'Den Thomas added a 1-yard touchdown run. UNLV's defense was dominant, accumulating four sacks, two pass breakups, a touchdown, and an interception. Defensive back Jarvis Ware strip-sacked UNR's quarterback Brendon Lewis, leading to a fumble recovered by Jackson Woodard for a touchdown. The Rebels led 24-7 at halftime and 31-7 after three quarters, ultimately improving their record to 10-2, marking their first 10-win season since 1984. The game was attended by 40,122 fans, the second-largest crowd for a UNLV game at Allegiant Stadium. The win keeps UNLV's hopes alive for a possible College Football Playoff berth.
