Ukraine Releases Over 4,000 Prisoners to Join Armed Forces Amid Personnel Shortage
Jul 23, 2024, 01:05 PM
Approximately 3,800 prisoners have been released early in Ukraine to address the shortage of personnel in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. These convicts have been recruited to fight in the ongoing war, with some already having been killed or injured. Roman Kostenko, secretary of the committee on national security, defense, and intelligence, confirmed the figures and noted that most of these prisoners have recently completed their sentences. The British newspaper The Guardian reported on this development, highlighting the reintegration of these individuals into society through their military service. Over 4,000 prisoners are now serving in Ukraine's Armed Forces.
