Biden Announces Nearly $8 Billion in Military Aid to Ukraine, Including JSOW Glide Bombs
Sep 26, 2024, 10:33 AM
The Biden administration has announced a significant increase in military aid to Ukraine, totaling nearly $8 billion. This aid package includes $375 million in immediate assistance and an additional $7.9 billion in long-term support. The package features advanced weaponry such as the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) glide bombs, which can be deployed by Ukraine's F-16 fighters and have a range of up to 130 km. Other components of the aid include HIMARS rockets, MRAP vehicles, Javelin and TOW missiles, artillery ammunition, air defense systems, Patriot air defense, cluster munitions, and funds for Ukraine's defense industrial base. Additionally, the package includes training for Ukrainian F-16 pilots. This announcement coincides with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Washington, where he met with President Biden and other U.S. officials to discuss ongoing support for Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression.
