Ukraine Probes Execution of Five POWs by Russian Forces in Zaporizhzhia, Seeks UN Inquiry
Nov 28, 2024, 11:58 AM
Ukraine has launched an investigation into the alleged execution of five Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) by Russian forces near the village of Novodarivka in the Zaporizhzhia region on November 24, 2024. Investigators have obtained video evidence showing the unarmed Ukrainian soldiers being forced to lie on the ground before being shot with automatic weapons. Additionally, Ukraine's Prosecutor General is currently investigating 53 criminal cases related to the alleged executions of 177 Ukrainian POWs. The Ukrainian authorities have also reported a second execution of four unarmed Ukrainian POWs in the Donetsk region. Kyiv has requested the United Nations to investigate these incidents, suggesting a possible systematic order from higher Russian military authorities to not take prisoners.
