Russia Launches Largest Missile Attack on Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure, Causing Power Outages
Nov 17, 2024, 04:45 AM
Russia has launched one of its largest missile and drone attacks on Ukraine since the start of the war, targeting energy infrastructure and causing widespread power outages across the country. The assault involved various types of missiles, including Kh-101, Kh-555, Kalibr cruise missiles, hypersonic Kinzhal ballistic missiles launched from MiG-31K jets, and Geran-2 drones. Strategic bombers, including up to 16 Tu-95MS and 6 Tu-160 aircraft, along with naval assets in the Black Sea, participated in the offensive. Air raid alerts were declared across all Ukrainian regions, with explosions heard in cities like Kyiv and Odesa, where emergency power outages were implemented. The attacks targeted both electricity generation and transmission facilities, according to Ukraine's Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko. The Ukrainian Air Force remains on high alert, anticipating further strikes.
