Putin: Russia Open to Reasonable Compromises, But No Concessions in Ukraine Conflict
Oct 25, 2024, 09:00 AM
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia is prepared to consider any peace agreements with Ukraine based on the realities on the ground but is not willing to make any concessions. Speaking at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Putin emphasized that any outcome of the conflict must favor Russia and respect Russian interests. He revealed that, according to Russian estimates, Ukraine's irreparable losses in the Kursk direction amounted to 26,000 personnel. Putin indicated that Russia is open to "reasonable compromises" but stressed that the "ball is in their court," referring to Ukraine's role in initiating negotiations. He also addressed Turkey's proposals regarding the Ukrainian conflict, emphasizing that any agreement must align with Russian interests. Putin criticized Ukraine for allegedly backing out of previous talks and questioned their commitment to peace, suggesting it is better to negotiate than to continue the conflict.
