Ukraine Launches Drone Strikes Deep in Russia, Hitting Military Plants and Airfield
Oct 20, 2024, 07:15 AM
Ukrainian drones struck multiple targets deep within Russian territory, including key military facilities, according to reports on October 19 and 20. The Kremniy EL (Silicon EL) microelectronics plant in Bryansk, one of Russia's largest microelectronics companies fulfilling contracts for the Russian Ministry of Defense, was hit by explosions. The plant, which produces components for missile systems such as the Iskander ballistic missiles, Pantsir air defense systems, radar, and UAVs, had been attacked multiple times before. Additionally, drones targeted the Sverdlov plant in Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod region, a major explosives factory located about 900 kilometers from Ukraine, producing ammunition, artillery shells, aerial bombs, and warheads. The Lipetsk-2 military airfield in Russia's Lipetsk region, previously attacked on August 8, was also reportedly targeted. The airfield, located approximately 340 kilometers from Ukraine, houses advanced aircraft including Su-34, Su-35, and MiG-31 jets, as well as ammunition depots and fuel storage facilities. Russian authorities claimed to have intercepted over 110 Ukrainian drones launched over seven regions, including Moscow, Kursk, Oryol, Lipetsk, Tula, Ryazan, Ivanovo, and Kaluga. The attacks represent significant strikes deep into Russian territory.
