Jan 16, 2025, 09:06 AM
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) reported a record-breaking net profit for the fourth quarter of 2024, with a 57% year-over-year increase to NT$374.68 billion ($11.4 billion), driven by a surge in demand for AI chips. The company's revenue for the quarter rose 38.8% to NT$868.46 billion ($26.36 billion), surpassing analyst expectations. TSMC's high-performance computing (HPC) division, which includes AI and 5G applications, contributed 53% of its revenue. The company expects another strong growth year in 2025, with AI-related demand continuing to surge. TSMC also announced plans to increase its capital expenditure for 2025 to between $38 billion and $42 billion, a significant increase from the previous year, to support the growing demand for AI technology. Despite geopolitical tensions and U.S. restrictions on advanced semiconductor exports to China, TSMC remains optimistic about its future growth, with revenue from AI accelerators projected to double in 2025.
