Trump Sentenced to Unconditional Discharge on 34 Felony Counts in Hush Money Case
Jan 10, 2025, 03:22 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has been sentenced to an unconditional discharge in his New York hush money case, avoiding jail time, fines, or probation. He appeared in court virtually from his Mar-a-Lago residence as Judge Juan Merchan delivered the sentence on Friday. The conviction stems from 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. Judge Merchan stated, "This court has determined that the only lawful sentence that permits entry of judgment of conviction, without encroaching on the highest office of the land is unconditional discharge." Trump plans to appeal the conviction, which means he will assume the presidency as the first U.S. president with a felony record.
